Gay Marriage or Heterosexual Serial Monogamy

Which is worse?

This is not to defer guilt from homosexuals, but rather remind us of our own guilt and that itis more heinous that we have faced or admitted in this country in a very long time.

We heterosexuals have not been doing so biblically well ourselves. The divorce rate is higher in the Church than it is outside the Church. 52% (fifty two percent).

How can we expect more adherence to moral law from homosexuals than we expect of ourselves? We have the Word of God as reason to show restraint. They have no reason to restrain themselves.

It is not gay marriage that makes a mockery of marriage, it has been heterosexual serial monogamy that has and even more so Christian heterosexual serial monogamy. "...of whom much is given, much is required..." (Luke 12:47-48)

We have the Truth, as our Master and as the written Word of God. Yet we cannot keep our eyes and our hands and our lusts off of each other's wives?

Not to make homosexuality of gay marriage any less heinous than it is. But heterosexuals have turned marriage into a very expensive mockery... and with divorce rates in the Church averaging around 52% (higher than the unchurched, by the way), Christian heterosexuals are not making a good show of it either.

Jeremiah 5:7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlotsÂ’ houses. 8 They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbourÂ’s wife. 9 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? Jeremiah 5:7 “Why should I forgive you? Your children have forsaken me
and sworn by gods that are not gods. I supplied all their needs, yet they committed adultery and thronged to the houses of prostitutes. 8 They are well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for another man’s wife. 9 Should I not punish them for this?” declares the LORD. “Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this? Hosea 4:13 They sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn offerings on the hills, under oak, poplar and terebinth, where the shade is pleasant. Therefore your daughters turn to prostitution and your daughters-in-law to adultery. 14 “I will not punish your daughters when they turn to prostitution, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery, because the men themselves consort with harlots and sacrifice with shrine prostitutes— a people without understanding will come to ruin!

You see, we have gotten lazy and worldly in the Church. We thought by passing laws we could keep the perversion at bay. As we engaged in our own perversions.

"Pervert" is not restricted to homosexuality, pedofilia, or bestiality. Any deviation (any) deviation from God's prescribed directives and commands is a perversion of those commands and directives.

Those who pervert their mariage by committing adultery are on the same road as homosexuals... they just aren't as far down that road.

Something to think about.

But as we have learned since the days of the old Moral Majority of the 1980's, passing every laws in the Bible would make no difference if the hearts of people aren't changed to desire to obey those laws.

This continent was pioneered by evangelical Christians who sought to win souls to Christ one soul at a time. The resulting nation of Christians (which America was founded as) was the result of each and every single one of those hearts being changed and won to Christ.

We have been woefully ineffective at this because we hole up in our Church buildings and get pompous with unbelievers only when we out number them... We invite them to the Church and feel good about ourselves, but what effect has salt ever had that never leaves the sal shaker? Well, the salt did invite the steak to come into the salt shaker...

We have to stop chasing our own and each other's tails and get infectious about Jesus again! Because America is crumbling? No. Because homosexuality threatens the institution of marriage? No. Because first and foremost our lord commanded us to (Matthew 28:19) and becaus people are dying all around us and going to a Christ-less hell for all eternity.
