We need to get out of Afghanistan. As long as the ones in charge really don't want to fight it, we are losing lives for no reason.

Heck this administration has built a 750k soccer field for Gitmo and wants to cut tricare for military what does that tell ya?

1) When the women are against it, its time to mossy on. The NOW crowd doesn't even want to defend against the atrocities committed against women in the name of religion there.

2) Logistically, the arena of conflict always has had serious downsides. "Never fight a land war in Asia ...". Even flight times from our bases in Iraq to the Afghan hinterlands is a long slog and circuitous route. Planting a carrier task force for support in the straights is also a negative for world commerce. Even discounting the Iranian fervor and threats, the region is even more of a business bottle neck with a expensive US Navy presence there.

4) We don't really have any allies there. Russia is rooting for the US to lose, Pakistan is deeply divided over our efforts at "democratization" there. India considers the US to be little more than a pain to work around in the area. The Saudi oil sheiks do not want us there at all. And Iran? ... well ...

5) There is no significant political or social gain for US influences current or future in Afghanistan.

6) Women's rights aside, there is not even much in the way of Our Christian Duty to continue to interfere in Afghanistan. There are not even any "environmental justifications" for our presence there. It is difficult to make more of an environmental mess in Afghanistan than the locals themselves have not already done ... A thousand years ago, Afghanistan had trees, but the locals burned most of that for firewood, now just the scares of battle remain on that semi-desert.

Our failure there, and we have already had more than one, is [typically] not following through with our gains made in the 1980's - See "Charley Wilson's War"

Limbaugh is absolutely correct about one thing: NO ONE wants to be hung with the "We lost Afghanistan" label. Not the Dems. Not the Repubs.

Afghanistan is a loser, and it doesnt matter WHO is in charge when we pull out (and we will have to eventually.) The American People are sick and tired of never ending war. The question is will we the people prevail, or will the tails of the extremist wag the common sense dogs?
