Speaking of a “brain transplant,” isn’t that required for people who praise “Islamic art” and the “artist” as well?

Looking at that stuff, it well explains why Islam suffers from a terminal case of no imagination. It also explains why in an art history course they can cover the entire history of Islamic art in ten minutes or less.

You're probably right in noting that Islamic art does not have the same kinds of virtuoso legacies. Islamic art went in a different direction, especially as far as the architecture, will often be products of collective team efforts rather than individual effort.

What's missing from your analysis is any attention to artistic values, ideals, and intentions. I think you're comparing apples and oranges. Also, not to be glib, but art is matter of taste. I went to an exhibit recently that featured some of the most renowned painters from over the past 150 years. The only thing that had any oomph for me was van Gogh, whose paintings were heart-rending and overwhelming. I'm personally interested in religious art. You probably know van Gogh was a religionist and was actually a missionary at one time.

By any chance was it the exhibit at the Norton Simon Museum of Art in Pasadena? That is where I saw the Picasso and Van Gogh exhibit… I called it unnerving.
