Eddy likes mediocrity! He is more concerned about beating Obama than electing a leader.

Perry seems a consummate politician. We've had enough of those. He demonstrated that he would use EOs to dictate. We have that right now. We don't need more of the same with a different objective.

Romney doesn't see the flaw in Romneycare and, again, we would be getting more of the same.

And these two (three) seem to be the only choices the media and Eddy want us to have.

Did Perry Blow It on Social Security?
Voters are not too fragile to hear the truth about entitlements.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry attracted new supporters during his first presidential campaign road trip through California with the provocative talk that enrages his opponents, such as his description of Social Security as a Ponzi scheme.

Perry's blunt language on Social Security is "absolutely part of his appeal," Floyd Kvamme, a venture capitalist and former adviser to President Ronald Reagan, said Friday outside an East Palo Alto fundraiser. "It's plain-spokenness. It's his realism. The fact of the matter is ... it's broken."

Floridians contemplate Perry's view on Social Security
The state with the largest proportion of elderly voters traditionally wouldn't nominate a candidate with such a stance. But the Texas governor might be able to break convention.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a wide lead over rival Mitt Romney in a new GOP presidential poll and is viewed as having the best chance to defeat President Obama next year.

Hours before eight Republicans face off tonight in another key debate, the CNN/ORC International poll shows Perry leading Romney, 30%-18%. More than four in 10 GOP voters say Perry is the most electable candidate, compared with 26% who say Romney can beat Obama.

CNN and the Tea Party Express are sponsoring tonight's debate in Tampa, the first to involve groups that back the anti-tax, small government movement. The debate begins at 8 p.m. ET.

It is totally unfair to blame Perry for the number of high school dropouts in Texas. Brian Williams trotted out this meaningless factoid in last week's debate. If Perry is nominated the Dems will hit him with this. This is an unfair shot at Texas schools. Texas is second in population. Of course we will have many dropouts. Texas attracts thousands of immigrants. Legal and illegal. Most from Mexico and Central America. There is little regard for education in this population. Parents are the key to good educational outcomes. End of story.

I'm sure his willingness to accept "gifts" from campaign contributors seeking favors wont matter either. I wasnt gonna bring this up, but you appear to be willing to grant Perry credit for all that job growth in Texas, yet also seem willing to excuse him for something else that happened on his watch.

As for your defense that the dropout problem is due to illegals, recall that Perry is against the border fence, so yes he needs to be questioned in more detail about his stance on that issue.

Perry Sticking to His Guns on Social Security

By Olga Belogolova

Texas Gov. Rick Perry isn’t shying away from the Social Security fight. In fact, he’s facing it head on.

Though his comments calling the popular program a “Ponzi scheme” have unleashed a slew of criticism from all sides, Perry has continued to defend his comments, even penning an op-ed in USA Today on Monday explaining his line of thinking.

Column: Rick Perry is no George W. Bush
By Richard Land

Many people assume Texas Gov. Rick Perry is a carbon copy of George W. Bush. Well, he isn't. Those who either love or despise former president Bush need to understand that Perry should be neither accepted nor rejected based on their opinion of Bush. Indeed, as the nation heads with full force into the 2012 election cycle, many of Perry's opponents in and out of the news media will try to tear down the Texas governor as "Bush, continued." To do so would be neither honest nor fair to either man.

September 13, 2011 — AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Four years ago, Gov. Rick Perry put aside his social conservative bona fides and signed an order requiring Texas girls to be vaccinated against HPV.
From the article:
But conservatives said they feared the requirement would infringe on personal liberties and signal approval of premarital sex. Rather than wait for the Legislature to act, Perry signed an executive order on Feb. 2, 2007, requiring the vaccination — with an opt-out provision. It surprised even his allies who acknowledged that it was out of step with his limited-government stance.
And:
Perry explained his action by pointing to his long-documented passion about fighting cancer.
Passion can blind one. See Jenet Reno and Waco Texas!

And:
By May 8, when it was clear the Legislature was going to pass the bill stopping his order, Perry said he would stop fighting.
Only when he saw the he was beat did he change his mind.

Interesting - it is OK to change one's mind whenyou see you are beaten but should be hung if you don't stand by a principle even if you are going to be beaten.
a) HPV inoculation - legislation was going to overturn the procedure. Actually, the legislation was going to be an OPT IN, not an out right ban of the inoculation.
b) Legislation overwhelming passed in-state tuition but support of this (even though you know you will be beaten) is seen as wrong.
Obviously, it depends on where you drive your political vehicles that determines if the stance of an individual is wrong or right.

Bingo! When you are representing a group of people, you are not expected to go against them for personal reasons. And it is worse when it goes against what you have advocated, "smaller government".

But that is not what Perry tried to put into law!

He is advocating it still today. He has that right. But that is a reason for me to be against him.

You got it. I am voting for a political position, not a nice guy or a bully. The majority of Congress has voted for bailouts and porkus. Does that mean if one of them advocates the same I should support them?

Perry's poll numbers will come back down to Earth. I think conservatives learned about some of the issues that have given conservatives in Texas pause. On the other hand, he has handled the critical attacks reasonably well. This is going to settle into a Perry-Romney race. For the long haul.

Perry Seizes on NY-9, Slams Obama on Israel
September 16, 2011 7:28 P.M.
By Robert Costa

As I noted in Richmond, Gov. Rick Perry is using the GOP victory in New York’s Ninth District as part of his stump speech, talking up the upset as a sign of President Obama’s political vulnerability.

One of the key factors in NY-9 was Obama’s growing problem with Jewish voters. Perry is seizing on that development this week, and in a new Wall Street Journal op-ed, he slams the president:

If Perry wins in Iowa he's going to be tough to stop. Can he beat Romney in N.H.? That's a tall order. But, if he does, the race might be over.

Can Rick Perry win in the suburbs? He does in Texas. What about outside the South? Good question.

Can Rick Perry win over suburbia?
