With Romney's victories in Maine and CPAC were real boosts. They further muddy the waters. You can see now the long tortured course to Tampa. The race sure does look like there could be a brokered convention.

Apparently one of Mittens' top advisors told the NY Times that Romney "faked it" in Mass.... faked being a liberal.

Oh please.

He pushed forward with gay rights (even kids) and abortion rights while Governor.

He is faking it right now, pretending to be some kind of conservative

Mitt Romney leads President Obama by 4 percentage points in Gallup’s latest national head-to-head polling.

If the election were held Thursday, 50 percent said they would support Romney, versus 46 percent who would support Obama, according to Gallup. The president holds the edge on former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), 49 percent to 48 percent.

The poll has a 4 percent margin of error, so the results mean Obama is statistically tied with both candidates.

Default CA Rep David Dreir to Retire

California about to become pure democrat.

Source

WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. David Dreier, the powerful chairman of the House Rules Committee, says he will not seek another term.

Dreier made the announcement Wednesday. He called himself a “proud institutionalist” and said Congress is as great as it has ever been.

Redistricting in California has made races tough for several incumbents. Three other longtime Republicans — Jerry Lewis, Wally Herger and Elton Gallegly — have announced plans to retire. Dreier’s decision had been expected based on new congressional lines.

All total, 21 Democrats and 16 Republicans in the House have announced that they would retire or seek another office.

Dreier said he had considered leaving three years ago but chose to return to focus on cutting spending, getting free trade bills passed and enhancing national security.

What is not said in the article is that due to the demographics of the State of California it is highly unlikely that the republicans will even maintain, let alone gain seats. Look for 6-9 seat shift to the dem side. Our only hope is that Texas gerrymandering will make up the difference.

Latest Field poll confirms this.

It's going to be a tough year for the GOP. Especially as the economy continues to improve and the job situation gets stronger.

A GOP Senate takever may be slipping away with Snowe's retirement, Kerry announcing he'll run in Nebraska and the Democrat Senate candidate in Virginia coming from behind to now be tied in that race.

More people on welfare than ever before.

Fewer people employed than have been since Carter.

You would rather believe in Obama's massaged stats?

Talk about drinking the Kool-Aid.

I love the weekend KSFO financial shows, several hosted by conservative guys, and how they paint a totally different picture on the economy from what the likes of Rush, Hannity and others paint. They even get callers scared by what they are hearing on weekday shows from guys talking down the economy.

It's like who are you going to believe - the lying eyes of folks like Rush or your common sense.

Unemployment claims dropped again and the perception of Americans according to recent polls is that the economy is getting better.

It is indeed. Not necessarily because of what Obama did, but because of cyclical influences.

Obama's "economic recovery" is tracking that of Regan.

You can argue Regan's policies made the difference but you can equally argue Obama's did.

Folks are in denial on this IMO.

I am very concerned when I read the internals to polling - 'best able to defeat Obama" as the #1 criterion for voting time after time. And yet, we have no history of ever seeing an election for president won by voting against the opponent. We don't see campaign signs that say "Vote for Me because I'm not the other guy." I have no pretty credentials to display touting some sort of expertise just my personal studies - if the GOP thinks they win in November with the ABO approach, then say hello to President Obama come January. People will more likely participate and vote when they can vote FOR someone. The president has his base - the challenger, no matter who, at this time - FAILED to excite the base. In presidential politics - it has always been the base first then coax others. The emphasis on electability is faux premise with virtually no history of success at any level (some down ticket success I suggest is there). People want reason to vote FOR someone or they will NOT change.
***
Although (I heard this on the news and haven't searched yet for who did the polling) there is supposedly an enthusiasm gap that leans right, my concern is that the enthusiasm is NOT at the top of the ticket but rather remains with Congress. Despite some predictions Luk and others, I am still thinking the Senate flips, albeit small (51 or 52 for GOP). House numbers are starting to come out now that we are getting past primaries and the DIMS are nowhere near to the 26 needed to regain the house - maybe a gain of 4-8 at this time.

George Will says concentrate on electing conservatives to Congress. POTUS may be lost cause.
Buckley understood the possibility of constructive defeat. He also understood the need to economize conservatism’s energies.

Today, conservatives dismayed about the Republican presidential spectacle may write a codicil to what is called the Buckley Rule. He said that in any election, conservatives should vote for the most electable conservative. The codicil might be: Unless the nomination or election of a particular conservative would mean a net long-term subtraction from conservatism’s strength.

Wasn't Will an early supporter of Romney because of electability? I contend (and I've been saying this long before he spoke up) that is where the energy needs to focus because the current front runners offer nothing substantially different from the status quo. And, quite frankly, I have no confidence they will attempt half of they espouse once they attain the WH, especially true of Romney, but the DNA of Santorum isn't much better.

This contraceptives issue has exposed the media for the activists they are. This issue is totally manufactured. Media doesn't want the focus to be on the economy and the pain at the pump. This flogging of Rush is so insincere. They don't care about Ms. Fluke. They care that she can help bring down Rush. The hypocrisy surrounding the focus on Rush is just stunning.

In an election year you must not allow the media to persudae you conservatism is in retreat. I was just on the Washington Post Op-Ed page. They are painting a picture of a fractured conservative movement. Constantly evaluating our primaries. Our candidate. Our issues. I admit, because I spend a lot of time ingesting their stuff that they can get to me. Things are much better for our side than these folks let on. The POTUS race is not hopeless. It's uphill for sure. Battle for the US Senate is still very encouraging. Even after Olympia Snowe quits.

Hang tough friends.
