OK, Beta-Testers... this is it.
Decision time.

This poll is not the final determining factor, it will be used in the final decision by the other admins, modetators and the Gold's themselves.

You WILL NOT hurt my feelings if you vote 'No', so be honest. You are the testers, you are the ones who get to provide input into the final decision, so be honest.

I would appreciate it if you gave some reasons for your vote, either way, go or no.

For me. I vote 'go' because I believe this software provides everything the other software did, and then some. It is an enhancement to the other software. Technically, it is better and uses technologies that will provide better response for the user.

MP: I agree with your assessment.

It will take a little while for the users to adapt to it but once that happens,
I think the majority will agree that it is better software.

New users should take to it like a duck to water.

I say go for it. Very Happy

There is one more mod I need to apply: that allows a user to ignore another user. It was one of the original selling features for this software.

I have not had time to apply the mod, it is a tricky one that require messing with the php code and the mySQL database tables. I don't want to rush it, or I may crash the entire board. I've crashed other test boards by doing a whole lot less.

But this mod is on a burner very close to the front of the stove.

Once that is done, I will open it for general registration.

The tough bullet to byte is when do we cut off the old board Wink

That is a tough bullet. Would be nice if we could depend on the bulk of members to begin posting articles both places, until this one is similarly populated. A week or two worth of postings would probably do. Then, pull the trigger.

But, perhaps I'm expecting too much, there.

Are David and DeAnna OK with the change?

IMHO, it would be a REAL PAIN to post the same message to both boards.

Just my 2ยข's worth.

Completely understand, Dale. Perhaps some could do it -- I wouldn't mind doing it for a while.

The way I'd switch would be to allow replys (for a while) but only allow thread creation in the new board. Start with a few topics and switch them a few at a time. When they were all switched, start cutting off replies in the old board, a few forums at a time, until the switch is complete.

OK devil's advocate here

Why not a "Hey we have a new forum" popup screen with a brief
set of instructions and maybe a redirect.

Why do a slow transition?

We could also post "Get ready for a better forum" messages in each
topic section.

Then do a count down. "We will go to new board in 10 days" etc
"Click on this link for a preview and to setup your user ID"

Not a bad idea..

In the end, the decision will be David and Deanna's to make how we transistion.

Even with a slow transistion, there would still be a need for the pop-ups and such you mention though.

Thanks!

While I haven't tried all of the bells and whistles that are offered with the new soft-ware, I am impressed with it to this point. I say let's go with the change, and not try to keep both forums going simultaneously.

Probably would be best to just make the switch. There would be no way to please everyone, so some will be shocked into the new system and go kicking and screaming. Others will just smoothly make the transition.

Main concern I had was content, but after looking at the frequency of posts, even during one day, it won't take long at all to repopulate the forums.
